MIL-PRF-23699 is the U.S. military performance specification for inhibited, synthetic hydrocarbon-base turbine engine lubricants. Oils qualified to this specification are 5 mm²/s synthetic hindered ester fluids formulated with additives to improve thermal and oxidation stability and metal passivation. AeroShell Turbine Oil 500, one of the most widely approved products under this specification, was developed to meet the requirements of Pratt & Whitney 521 Type II and MIL-PRF-23699 and is approved as an SAE AS5780B Grade SPC (Standard Performance Capability) oil. These oils are not compatible with all seal materials and should not be used in contact with incompatible elastomers; refer to manufacturer guidance before use.
*Specific gravity is referenced to a static water density of 998 kg/m³ (water at 60 °F) rather than to water at the fluid's own temperature.
Combines the Density, Viscosity, Specific Heat, Thermal Conductivity, Thermal Diffusivity, Prandtl Number, and Thermal Expansion calculators into one oil + temperature lookup. Density, specific heat, thermal conductivity, and thermal expansion are shared across all six oils (all qualify to the same base-fluid spec); only kinematic viscosity is oil-specific, per NIST IR 8263. Dynamic viscosity and Prandtl number use a separately measured generic MIL-PRF-23699 dataset (Table B4, valid 62–260 °F / 17–127 °C), independent of the oil selector.
